I hated it when he used that tone to start his briefings. It never meant anything good.
"You'll be *happy* to know that sometime in the course of the past 2 days, the enemy planted a virus in our C4I Center (Command. Control, Communications, Computer and Intelligence) that affected our SCADA system (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition). We only dicovered it yesterday in the course of pulling up a routine piece of information on one of our pilots and while all of the information showed, the name didn't! From everything we can tell right now, it appears to be some kind of 'Rube Goldberg' thing that is self-perpetuating. For that reason, we are shutting down SCADA until further notice."
"But Sir! How will we get paid?"
To me, that was the very least of our worries. It meant that the RNA had sabotaged our very control center and that something had to be done quickly.
We went in again last night, this time directing our fire at *their* C4I. After our first engagement, I knew to don my 'robe of absorption' as soon as we hit the cold.
It worked. I don't have to change the sheets this morning - just wash one terry-cloth bathrobe.
